Oryx Universal College, in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, takes pride in the accomplishments of its students and alumni. On Tuesday, May 9th, the first INTERCOM conference in the Middle East was held in Qatar. INTERCOM DOHA 2023 is a conference hosted by the International Council of Museums Qatar (ICOM Qatar), which represents member museums and museum professionals in Qatar, both internationally and locally. It creates a space for dialogue and the exchange of ideas. In this event, Jawaher Abdulrahman S A Alkuwari, one of our MSc Project Management alumna, earned a prominent spot on one of the key panel discussions with the presentation of her research paper.
The conference, titled ‘The Future Museum: Framing the Skills and Mindsets of Visionary Leaders’, served as a platform for exchanging experiences and addressing challenges in shaping the future of museums following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing together notable figures from the museum industry, including INTERCOM, ICOM Qatar, and Qatar Museums.
During her tenure at Oryx Universal College, Alkuwari conducted research that yielded valuable insights into innovation, museum leadership, and technology, with a particular focus on the National Museum of Qatar. Her study highlighted the positive outcomes that result from embracing advancements in digital experiences and interactive exhibits. The National Museum of Qatar served as an exemplary case study, demonstrating how technological innovation, when aligned with the museum’s vision, can create captivating and immersive experiences for visitors.
Following her graduation from Oryx Universal College in March 2023, Alkuwari expressed her eagerness to publish her journal and share her paper with a wider audience. This ambition coincided perfectly with the opportunity to participate as a panelist at the INTERCOM 2023 conference and Alkuwari seized the chance to represent Oryx Universal College as the sole recent graduate on the panel.
