University (LJMU), marked a significant milestone with the official launch of the LJMU-Qatar Alumni
Association. The inauguration took place at the esteemed Al Majlis Auditorium and was attended by
a distinguished gathering, including alumni, faculty, and special guests. This landmark event signaled
the beginning of a new chapter focused on fostering collaboration, mentorship, and active community
engagement among graduates.
The ceremony was opened by the President of Oryx University, Mr Azmy Ameer with messages from
LJMUs Vice Chancellor Professor Mark Power and Director of Finance Mr Rob Molloy. Prominent
figures present at the ceremony included members of the Board of Trustees, Associate Pro ViceChancellor of LJMU Dr. Rebecca Murphy, LJMU’s Director of the School of Law and Justice Studies,
Professor Daniel Silverstone, Director of International Relations Dr. Julia Wang, and Football legend
and Chief Sports Officer of Aspire Academy Tim Cahill AO.. The inauguration was further honored by
the presence of members from the alumni community, alongside faculty members, who came
together to celebrate and support the new association.
The newly established association unites graduates from both LJMU’s UK campus and Oryx University
in partnership with LJMU’s Transnational Education programs delivered in the State of Qatar, creating
a powerful network of professionals committed to excellence, service, and Qatar’s continued growth.
“The purpose of this alumni association is simple—but powerful: to reconnect, to contribute, and to
continue” Professor Mark Power noted during his opening speech “this association will be more than
just a social group. It will be a living network—a platform for personal and professional growth, for
giving back, and for celebrating the achievements of our alumni community.”
Inaugural Alumni Awards
Highlights of the evening included stirring speeches from LJMU graduates Abdulla Khalifa Al-Nasr
(LLB Law, UK) and Dr Omar Al-Hassan (MSc Project Management, LJMU Collaborative programme
with Oryx University) who were given Alumni recognition awards and the presentation of the
inaugural Alumni of the Year Award to Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi.
Dr Al-Hassan spoke about how his degree “taught me critical thinking, and how to see opportunities
where others may see them as challenges. The friendships I built became lifelong support networks.
The mentorship I received guided me during important decisions, and the experiences I gained turned
into lessons and values that still shape my journey.” While Mr Al-Nasr noted how “I had the privilege
of being an active leader in the Qatar Society in Liverpool. It wasn’t just about organizing events—it
was about creating a home away from home, where Qatari students could find support, and where
we could share our culture with the wider community. This award tonight is not the end of a chapter,
but the beginning of a responsibility: to take what I have learned here and give back to Qatar, to
serve my community, and to inspire those who will come after me.”

Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, a distinguished graduate from the MSc Project Management
cohort of 2022 currently serves as the Director General of the National Cyber Security Agency of
Qatar, where he has demonstrated exceptional leadership in protecting Qatar’s digital infrastructure
and advancing national cybersecurity capabilities.
“Mr. Al Hammadi represents the very best of what our alumni community aspires to be,” said the
