Oryx University becomes the first university in Qatar to be awarded accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
Doha, Qatar – June 10, 2026 – The College of Engineering and Construction at Oryx University (OU), in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), UK, marked the award of accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying Programme (with Foundation).
The ceremony was jointly organised by the RICS Qatar Chapter and Oryx University, and it took place at the Al Majlis auditorium of the university. It was attended by guests from the British Embassy, British Council, RICS, the Board of Trustees, and industry professionals from across Qatar.
Attendees included the Guest of Honour, Major General Adel Hassan Fakhroo, Education Director, Qatar Armed Forces; and the keynote speaker, Dr. Mazen Omar Hasna, Chairman, National Committee of Qualifications and Accreditation (NCQAA).

The ceremony opened with a welcome address by President Azmy Ameer of Oryx University, followed by a speech from Dr. Tarek Madany, Board Member, RICS, and the signing of the accreditation agreement and transfer of the certificate.
“Securing RICS accreditation for our Quantity Surveying degree is a proud moment for our academic community and a validation of our commitment to educational excellence,” said President Azmy Ameer. “By aligning our curriculum with the highest professional standards, we are equipping our students with global career pathways and serving Qatar’s built environment. This achievement cements our partnership with Liverpool John Moores University and supports the human-development goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

The accreditation delivers value across academic, commercial, and national levels. For Oryx University students, it provides a direct, fast-tracked pathway to globally recognised RICS professional qualifications, strengthening graduate employability, earning potential, and international mobility. For Qatar’s construction and infrastructure sector, it secures a pipeline of locally trained quantity surveyors working to the highest international standards of ethics, cost management, and commercial transparency. Nationally, it supports the economic and human-development pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030: by localising British higher education in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, Oryx University helps reduce reliance on expatriate expertise, build a sustainable knowledge-based economy, and reinforce Qatar’s position as a regional hub for educational excellence and resilient urban development.
The collaboration between OU and RICS reflects a shared commitment across Qatar’s academic and professional community to advancing excellence, institutional development, and student success throughout the higher education sector.
